Neither Borrower Nor Lender Be
Sometimes it's seductive. It's so tempting. You know what I'm talking about I'm sure.
Letting people pay for things. From spotting a few dollars here and there or picking up the tab, or the people that forget you owe them money for little things. It's really hard to resist letting them help you out financially, whether you want to or not.
Especially in a relationship. I've got my sweetheart who buys me meals from time to time, but I try really hard to return the favor whenever I can.
It's better to pay back the people that do things for you though. I can't afford to pay to take his family out to dinner to repay them for all their generosity to me, but I can make them dinner.
I can't afford to do a lot of things, but if I owe my boss $5 for mailing a package for me, then darn it, I better pay him back even if he doesn't remember doing it.
This is how to build personal capital with myself and others.
I remember being a beggar and a mooch in the cafeteria as a kid. Never again. I maybe am not making it as well as I'd like on my own, but I'm making it. I'll never go back to relying on others or letting them ease my way.
